January 9th New Comic Book Day!

Scroll through our recommendations for January 9th's New Comic Book Day, listed below!

There are two big titles premiering this week, and they've certainly been getting plenty of buzz: Captain Marvel #1 and Young Justice #1! We're confident we're not the only ones counting down until the new Captain Marvel film, and a new comic series will quench at least a little of that thirst (we hope!). This new story, from badass lady team Kelly Thompson (writer) and Carmen Nunez Carnero (artist), finds Carol Danvers returning to New York after months in space protecting Earth. If you've got any kiddos in your life who may be equally excited about more Captain Marvel stories but might not quite be ready for the maturity of a comic (the new Captain Marvel comic is rated Teen+), the good news is there is a new book for them for this week, the Captain Marvel: Little Golden Book! You can find more info about both stories below! The second big title hitting shelves this week is Young Justice #1! This is a new story by Brian Michael Bendis (the creator of Jessica Jones and therefore our forever hero) for his new young-adult imprint, Wonder Comics, at DC! This new series follows some not so new characters; in fact, many of the young characters we already know and love from the DC Universe will be coming together! That includes the likes of Wonder Girl, Amethyst, Robin, and Superboy! Joining the team we do get two new folks: Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex. The story finds our young heroes uniting when the "nightmare dimension" of Gemworld invades Metropolis!

A few of our favorite titles are returning this week, and we can't wait to read the next issues: Bitter Root #3, Blackbird #4, Die #2, and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #40!

Each title, listed below in alphabetical order, includes cover art and a brief description. To learn more about each title, click on the cover art image and head over to Previews World!

Hobo Mom GN

NOV181768

(W) Charles Forsman, Max de Radigues

Hobo Mom was collaborated on and drawn simultaneously by two cartoonists across the Atlantic: Charles Forsman, author of The End of the Fxxxing World (now a hit Netflix series), and Max de Radiguès, winner of a prestigious prize at the Angoulême International Festival of Comics for his 2018 graphic novel Bastard. Both of their clean line styles fit together perfectly to tell a sober and intimate story about an emotionally damaged family and the price of freedom. Tom lives a simple life as a single father of pre-teen daughter Sissy, but their estranged wife and mother has chosen a much different path. Natasha hops trains and has become a vagrant since leaving her family a few years earlier. After a dangerous encounter riding the rails, Natasha chooses to show up on the doorstep of the family she abandoned and finds an upset husband, although still deeply in love, and a little girl yearning for a mother. Can someone who covets independence settle down? Forsman and de Radiguès's Hobo Mom explores the ideas of being trapped in domesticity and whether one deserves happiness, even at the cost of others.
