January 2nd: New Year, New Comix!!

Welcome to 2019! Not just a new week or new month, but a whole new year of comix to get excited about! Our resolution in 2018 was to read for pleasure at least a few minutes everyday, and to be honest we got damn close! Our resolution will be the same for 2019, so fingers crossed we can check off all 365 days this time! The dream would be to read a full comic or graphic novel everyday, but hey, baby steps! Do you have a reading resolution? Let us know!

Now, back to this week's new comics, the first new batch for 2019! Scroll through our recommendations for January 2nd's New Comic Book Day, listed below!

There are two new titles we're excited about, the first is a new comics run and the second a new graphic novel: Champions #1 and The Chancellor and the Citadel. The new Champions run picks up with the team successfully under Ms. Marvel's leadership, but facing a new foe! The Chancellor and the Citadel, however, takes a much less hopeful tone, as it starts after the world has ended, and all that remains is a citadel, and the chancellor who protects it. Unfortunately those outside its walls believe it was the fault of the chancellor that the world has ended, and are determined to make her pay by destroying the place she protects. This is the graphic novel debut for Maria Frantz and it looks beautiful based on the cover alone (peek it below)!

A few of four favorite titles are returning this week, and we can't wait to read the next issues for Hex Wives, Unnatural, and Wonder Woman!

The list also has two lovely options for young readers (and of course young at heart): the book Sweet Dreams, Supergirl and Scooby-Doo Team-Up #45. The first follows a young girl trying to fall asleep juxtaposed against Supergirl tackling her own elusive adversary, and shows that traits like patience and bravery can help both of these powerful ladies in their quests! As for the latter, we happen to be huge lifelong Scooby-Doo fans in all of his many forms, but haven't read many of the comics (shocking, we know). The Team-Up series often sees the gang partnering with obscure comics characters from the days of yore, but we've been excited to see them team up with Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and even Harley Quinn in the past. This issue, they're teaming up with the powerhouse Big Barda, and her husband Mister Miracle!

Each title, listed below in alphabetical order, includes cover art and a brief description. To learn more about each title, click on the cover art image and head over to Previews World!
