Femme Power Picks: May!!

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

May is here and it brings with it an incredible amount of new comics and graphic novels!

First up for comics we have Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force. This is a new one-shot comic, which celebrates the most diverse group of representatives that the nation has ever elected! We are so incredibly excited to get our hands on this new title, because real life heroes deserve the caped crusader treatment!

The new ongoing series we have been counting down towards comes to us from Vault Comics- She Said Destroy. With beautiful and otherworldly art by Liana Kangas, She Said Destroy is described as Wicked + Divine meets Star Wars, and focuses on a secluded space colony that is the last stronghold against the goddess of the Sun, Brigid. Morrigan, the sister of Brigid, and her followers, called the Witches of Fey, are the only hope in preventing Brigid from conquering the entire solar system. Morrigan is traditionally presented as a goddess of death, and we are excited to see her as a force for good in this new story full of powerful female characters!

One of the new graphic novels that we are especially excited to share is Gender Queer, an original memoir by Maia Kobabe, which follows eir journey discovering eir identity and coming out as nonbinary and asexual. Maia does an exceptional job sharing vulnerable lessons with humor and heart and is truly one of those reasons that everyone could benefit from picking up this graphic novel. For our followers that are San Francisco Bay Area based, make sure you come to Comix Experience on June 19th to meet and talk with Maia Kobabe (and even get your copy of Gender Queer signed)!

There are so many new graphic novels that we are excited to feature this month, but rather than turn this post into a 60 minute read with our enthusiastic paragraphs on each, we thought it best to use our Instagram to share details of release dates as well as excerpts- so please make sure to keep an eye out on our social media!

And not to be overshadowed by books, May brings dozens of returning favorite comic series like Batgirl, Catwoman, Giant Days, Harley Quinn, Magnificent Ms. Marvel and so many others!

And in case you missed it: You can now purchase comics and graphic novels in our shop! We are slowly adding inventory as we get things situated, so bear with us! As we decide what we should stock in the shop, we would love your feedback, so always feel free to send us an email or leave us a message on Facebook or Instagram!
