Femme Power Picks: June 12th!!

Scroll through our recommendations for June 12th's New Comic Book Day, listed below!

There are a handful of new comic series, and a few graphic novels, that we are excited to read this week! First up for new comics we have Jughead's Time Police from Archie Comics! The series follows Jughead after he goes back in time to fix the disastrous results of a bake-off that leave him banned from all future competitions (clearly desperate times called for desperate measures). It's important to note that Jughead is one of the few asexual characters established in main stream comics, and while only time will tell whether his sexuality is addressed in this new series, given its Pride Month launch and that it comes to us from both a queer-identified writer and illustrator, we can only hope! Next on the new list, we have Sonata, from Image Comics, which follows a young woman named Sonata as she tries to find her place in a world currently stuck between two clashing cultures who each believe the planet to be their promised land. Given the cover's imagery of Sonata riding a giant, majestic bird, this looks like an epic fantasy story that we can't wait to dive into (potential bird pun not intended). Last but not least for new comic series comes to us from Aftershock and is titled Trust Fall. Being born into a criminal enterprise is never easy, but being able to teleport things makes Ash the "golden goose" of her family. The twist? Ash can teleport bank vaults and criminal consorts but never herself, making each heist a metaphorical trust fall with her family hopefully there to catch her before law enforcement.

In the graphic novel department, there are two new titles we want to point out. The first, Penny Nichols, follows a character of the same name who finds herself helping out on a low budget horror movie after working a series of unfulfilling temp jobs. The story of finding your passion and discovering your future path in the unlikeliest of places sounds both reassuring and empowering! Last but not least, we have Sea Sirens: A Trot & Cap'n Bill Adventure! Janet Lee Trot is a Vietnamese-American surfer accompanied by her cranky, one-eyed cat Cap'n Bill. When a large wave drags them under water, Trot and Cap'n Bill find themselves in a magical kingdom, where the mermaids are under attack from the vicious Serpent King! This book is inspired by L. Frank Baum's The Sea Fairies (which has been described as the "underwater Wizard of Oz"), but adds Vietnamese mythology to weave together a fantastical underwater adventure!

We also have some returning favorites this week such as Catwoman, Glow, Ironheart, Morning in America and so many other Femme Power Comix favorites!
