Femme Power Picks: April 17th!!

Scroll through our recommendations for April 17th's New Comic Book Day, listed below!

There are three new titles we're excited to check out this week. Two of these are new comic series featuring familiar, powerful women. The first is Mary Shelley: Monster Hunter, which goes back to the winter of 1816 and posits that perhaps young Mary Shelley was able to come up with the terrifying story of Frankenstein because she lived it! The second of the new comic series is Xena: Warrior Princess! This run has the always talented writer Vita Ayala at the helm, and follows Xena and her companion Gabrielle as they try to solve the mysteries discovered among the children in a nearby village.

The third new title we wanted to point out is a graphic novel, and though it may be geared towards kiddos, this is a worthwhile read for all ages! The graphic novel, titled Pilu of the Woods, is the perfect combo of adorable illustrations and a heartwarming story. Pilu follows young Willow one afternoon as she runs away to the woods after letting her emotions get the best of her. Its in the woods that Willow happens upon a lost tree sprite named Pilu, and the two embark on an adventure to help Pilu get home. This sweet story explores friendship and feelings and family in a way that made us cry when we got a chance to read an advanced copy.

There are also a handful of #2 issues this week, so now's a great chance to catch up if you missed them the first time around! Calamity Kate, Little Bird, Magnificent Ms. Marvel, and Morning in America all have their second issues this week!

Check out the full list of our picks for this week below, including returning favorites like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lumberjanes, Naomi, and West Coast Avengers!
